All three credit agencies offer a free credit score online instantly. See the links below. While these scores are not FICO scores they offer a close approximation. Further, if one score is lower then the others it will give you a clue as to where to start looking at how to improve your credit score. This is the first step to know where to begin to improve your free credit score report. Investing in rental property generally requires a good credit score (unless you use seller financing). You are allowed by law to get a free annual credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies.

Experian offers their instant free online credit score through their site Credit Sesame. Finally, Equifax's free score for credit is at Equifax Credit Score Card. You should recognize that the gold standard for credit scores is FICO which you have to pay for. However, you can usually get a free FICO score for a 30 day trial by clicking one of their ads.

Note:If you have been refused credit in the last 60 days the lender is required to list the credit agency that they used to decide whether to lend you money. You can request a free credit report from that lender in addition to the annual reports above.

You should look at your free score online at least monthly so that you spot any negative trends.
